As a webmaster, web designer and marketer, I am constantly spammed and scammed. All webmasters are special targets to scammers that try to install malicious code on their computers through spam. As a web designer I am often surfing the net looking for insipration and could easily stumble onto a page that will try to install trojans and viruses on my computer.

Protect yourself from spam and scam email with an anti-spam program. Small and home businesses are especially devastated and crippled by the considerable impact of employees unnecessarily reading unwanted solicitation emails, junk and scams. Unfortunately, due to utter stupidity and corruption, our governments are not acting on or attacking this criminal intrusion on our lives, manpower and resources, continuing to fail to work on the people's behalf. So we have to make sure our Internet Security system includes an anti-spam solution, as well.
Backup important files and data on a regular basis using a hard drive backup program and preferably an extra hard drive or by utilizing an online backup and retrieval service.

Using the above steps and electing good, intelligent politicians whom also sport an actual backbone and will stand against corruption and crime are the only way we can protect ourselves from malicious hackers and crackers.

What is the best choice to protect your system from viruses and malicious programs?

That answer is going to vary across platforms and personalities. Computer users are split between different platforms. There are the Windows basec PCs and the Macintosh computers that everyone is familiar with. Unix and Linux based systems are also quite popular and with the advent of the Android OS, the *nix operating systems are making an impact on the public commercial market, as well. Then there are even the obselete players, such as the Amiga, which at one time outsold games on every other computer platform.

Each platform of computing device needs to be protected. Some systems come with built-in protection (note that this is not the Macintosh computer platform). For the sake of brevity, I will be discussing anti-virus and anti-malware software security and protection solutions for the Windows based platform. It works well on systems running Vista or above.
